Making Complex Investing Information Easier to Navigate
Role: Content Strategist / Writer
Contribution: Content strategy + UX content design for investor education
Collaboration: UX, product, business + subject-matter experts
Focus: Simplifying complex investment information + supporting informed decision-making
The Challenge
RBC Direct Investing needed to organize a complex body of investing content for a wide range of users, from first-time investors to experienced traders.
The challenge wasn’t simply creating more content. It was making the right information accessible to people with very different levels of financial knowledge.
My Approach
I approached the Toolkit as a content strategy problem, focusing on:
Simplifying complexity through plain-language, structured content
Creating clear pathways for both new and experienced investors
Making information easier to discover through information architecture and SEO
Designing for accessibility, applying WCAG/AODA principles throughout the experience
I was trained by RBC accessibility specialist Toan Tran and incorporated accessibility considerations directly into the content design process.
The Work
I developed and structured content around the questions users were most likely to have at different stages of their investing journey.
The experience balanced foundational education with deeper, more specialized information, allowing users to start where they were and explore further as needed.
I worked with subject-matter experts and stakeholders to translate complex financial concepts into content that was accurate, accessible, and easier to understand.
The Outcome
The result was an Investor’s Toolkit designed as a cohesive learning experience rather than a collection of disconnected articles. It’s an online hub for videos, articles, and tutorials.
Content Strategy + SEO + Accessibility + Plain Language
Key Takeaway
When information is complex, the solution isn’t necessarily more information. It’s better structure.
